The Danger of Religious Innovations.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And as I told you, the matter of bid'ah (religious innovation) is grave, and its effect on the hearts is bad. Even if a person finds softness and pliability in his heart at that moment, the situation will certainly be the opposite afterwards, because the joy of the heart in falsehood does not last; rather, it is followed by pain, regret, and remorse.
There is also danger in it. Every religious bid'ah carries danger because it entails disparaging the message, for the implication of this bid'ah is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not complete the Shari'ah, or did he?
Be careful. The implication of this bid'ah is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not complete the Shari'ah. Is that not so? Because it is asked: Where is it in the Shari'ah of Allah?
That is, where is it in the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?
It is not found.
So, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not complete the Shari'ah.
Then we ascend to what is more severe, and we say that in the statement of the Exalted:
This day I have perfected for you your religion اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
, what is in it?
A contradiction. Where is the religion, and this bid'ah is from it, yet it was not found?
So it was not completed.
I say: Where is the perfection of the religion, and this bid'ah is from it, yet it was not found?
So the bid'ahs would imply that the statement of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He):
This day I have perfected for you your religion اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
is not correct, and this is a great danger.
And the strange thing is that some of those afflicted with these bid'ahs are found to be extremely eager to implement them, while they are lax in what is more beneficial, more authentic, and more effective. You find them lax in those matters.
Therefore, we say: Celebrating the night of the twenty-seventh as the night in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was raised up is a bid'ah, because it is built upon a cause that the Shari'ah did not bring.
