The questioner : I am sending you this question, which is that I am married to two wives. One obeys me, fulfills my rights, and loves my parents, my relatives, and my children who are not hers, while the other does not obey me, does not listen to my words, does not love my children who are from another woman, and does not love my relatives either. Is it permissible for me, O honorable Shaykh, to boycott her and avoid her, knowing that I have children from her? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : This wife who obeys you and honors your relatives and your children from another woman is rewarded and thanked for this noble deed. As for the other wife who is the opposite, who does not obey you, does not love your children from another woman, and does not love your relatives, she is sinful if there is no cause for her marital defiance. She must repent to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and treat her husband with kindness. If she does not do so, she is defiant. Allah the Exalted said in the Noble Qur'an:[An-Nisa 4:34] In this situation, that is, in the case of her defiance without cause, you may boycott her in bed until she straightens out and fulfills the duty that Allah has made obligatory upon her. However, in speech, you must not boycott her, because it is not permissible for any of the believers to boycott his believing brother for more than three days, as established in the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). You may boycott her in speech for a limit of three days only. As for in bed, you may boycott her as long as you wish until she fulfills what is obligatory for her toward you. Yes.

But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.
