Treating the phenomenon of boycotting relatives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
There are journalistic surveys, Your Eminence, that say: boycotting relatives is very common these days. You must have an opinion on the best way for relatives to restore their ties, and for people to visit one another and revive their social connections.

Answer:
In any case, this is the right of the scholars and those who give advice. If they know of a group of people who are boycotting one another—whether they are relatives or not, or neighbors—they should advise them. This is how a believer advises his brothers, whether he is a scholar, a select believer, or an ordinary believer. He advises the one he knows has boycotted his brother, or between whom there is hostility. He advises them and visits them, along with any of his brothers who are available. If they are a group, it is better, because the word of a group is more beneficial. If he gathers with two or three of their relatives or neighbors and they visit them and advise them until the boycott ends and love replaces the hostility, this is the right of the Muslim brother. The brother of a Muslim is his brother. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The religion is sincere adviceالدين النصيحة
It was asked: For whom, O Messenger of Allah? He said:
To Allah, to His Book, To His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their masses.لله ولكتابه ولرسوله ولأئمة المسلمين وعامتهم
Sahih Muslim 55a
.
And boycotting one another is not permissible. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is not permissible for a Muslim to have estranged relations with his brother beyond three nights, the one turning one way and the other turning the other way when they meet; the better of the two is one who is the first to give a greeting.لا يحل لمسلم أن يهجر أخاه فوق ثلاث، يلتقيان، فيعرض هذا ويعرض هذا، وخيرهما الذي يبدأ بالسلام
Sahih Muslim 2560a
And he said:
Do not envy one another, do not deceive one another, do not turn away from one another, and do not undercut one another’s sales. Be the servants of Allah, brothers. The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim; he does not wrong him, does not look down on him, does not lie to him, and does not abandon him. Piety is here, and he pointed to his chest three times. It is sufficient for a person to be in evil if he looks down on his Muslim brother. The blood of every Muslim, his wealth, and his honor are forbidden to every other Muslim.
.
The point is that the evil of boycotting one another is great.
It is obligatory for relatives, neighbors, and friends to resolve their problems and to strive to remove the causes of hostility, enmity, and boycott by the means they are able to. And Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. Yes.
