The questioner : In Yemen, we have a mosque that was built and is called the Mosque of Mu'adh ibn Jabal, famous as al-Jund Mosque. People come to visit it on the Friday of the month of Rajab every year, both men and women. Is this a recommended practice? And what is your advice to these people, O honorable Shaykh?
The Shaykh : This is not a recommended practice. First, because it is not established that Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him to Yemen, designated a mosque for him there. And if that is not established, then the claim that this mosque belongs to him is a claim without evidence, and every claim without evidence is not accepted.
Second, even if it were established that Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) designated a mosque there, it is not prescribed to visit it or to travel to it. Rather, traveling to mosques other than the three mosques is prohibited. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 5:58.
Third, singling out this act for the month of Rajab is also a religious innovation. The month of Rajab has not been singled out for any acts of worship, neither fasting nor prayer. Its ruling is the same as the ruling of the other sacred months. The sacred months are Rajab, Dhu al-Qa'dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and Muharram. These are the sacred months about which Allah the Exalted said in His Book:[At-Tawbah 9:36]. It is not established that the month of Rajab was singled out from among them for anything, neither fasting nor standing in night prayer. So if a person singles out this month for any act of worship without it being established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he is an innovator, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani).
So my advice to my brothers who engage in this act of attending the mosque that is claimed to be the Mosque of Mu'adh in Yemen is that they should not weary themselves, destroy their wealth, and waste it in this matter, which does not increase them in anything from Allah except distance. And my advice to them is to direct their efforts to what is established, or to what the permissibility of which is established in the Book of Allah or the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And this is sufficient for the believer. Yes.

One should not undertake journeys except to three mosques: al-Masque al-Haram (in Makkah ), the Aqsa mosque, or this mosque (in Madinah).

Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred.

Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.
