My problem, which I am suffering from, is excessive whispering in everything, to the point that I have come to hate life and hate myself, and I am annoyed by everything, but I am still suffering.

The questioner : The listener is Muhammad Abu Bakr, a Sudanese resident in Jeddah. He has this question: He says, “O honorable Shaykh, my problem, which I am suffering from, is excessive whispering in everything, to the point that I have come to hate life and hate myself, and I am annoyed by everything. However, I am still suffering from this whispering for a long time. I ask for guidance to what will bring peace to my soul and my thinking. May Allah reward you with good.”
The Shaykh : What I see is that the effective cure for this whispering is what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) guided us to, which is seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and ceasing and turning away from these whispers. A person should occupy himself with his work and ignore these whispers. For example, if it happens that whispers overtake him while he is in a state of ritual purity, let him perform the ablution and proceed with his purity. When he is finished, he should not think about it again, even if his soul tells him that he did not complete the purity. Let him proceed and not worry about it. Likewise, in prayer, if he begins to doubt his prayer—whether he said the takbir for entering the state of consecration, whether he recited Surat al-Fatihah, whether he prayed one or two rak'ahs, or similar numerous doubts that overtake him at every prayer—he should not pay attention to this and not worry about it, because if he pays attention to it and worries about it, it will increase upon him and his life will become unpleasant.
Likewise, one who is afflicted with whispering regarding his family and comes to think that he has divorced, and his marital life becomes confused, should not pay attention to this. Let him seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and turn away from this until it is removed by the permission of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Some people, due to the severity of the matter upon them, when Shaytan tells them that they have divorced their wife, say, “Then I will divorce her and be at peace,” and the divorce proceeds. This is a mistake; this is a great mistake and is not among the prescribed matters. In fact, if it is assumed that this matter happened to him and he divorced due to internal psychological pressure, his wife is not divorced in this case, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saidSunan ad-Daraqutni 16:86 This man who has this whispering and psychological pressure has, in reality, divorced in a state of compulsion. The important thing is that these whispers that occur to a person in his ritual purity, in his worship generally, in his dealings with people, and in his family, their cure is that he seeks refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and that
he turns away from them and does not pay attention to them.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
