The questioner : From the questions of the listeners, Sabir says: This hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
All the sins of a Shahid (martyr) are forgiven except debt. يغفر الله للشهيد كل ذنب إلا الديْن
Sahih Muslim 1886a
Is the meaning of this hadith correct?

The Shaykh : Yes, the meaning of this hadith is correct. It means that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) forgives every sin for the martyr except debt, because debt is a right belonging to a human being, and it must be repaid. However, if the person took the money with the intention of repaying it, it is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Whoever accepts other people's wealth intending to pay it back, Allah will pay it back for him. And whoever accepts it intending to waste it, Allah, the Most High, will waste (destroy) him. من أخذ أموال الناس يُريد أداءها أدّى الله عنه ومن أخذها يُريد إتلافها أتلفه الله
Bulugh al-Maram 7:94
So, if this martyr who has a debt took the money intending to repay it, then Allah the Exalted will repay it on his behalf, either by facilitating someone in this world to pay off this debt for him, or by Allah repaying it for him on the Day of Resurrection, by increasing the creditor in degrees or by expiating his sins. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
