The Shaykh’s advice to students of knowledge to convey the religion of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger to the people, including teaching them the correct Sunnah of moving the finger.

The Shaykh : To some of the brothers: The task of one of us who has been given some knowledge is to realize in his knowledge the saying of his Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): , . It is not our task to make precise calculations about whether the few are the followers and the many are the opponents, or the reverse? First, this is beyond our capacity, because it requires comprehensive investigation and exhaustive search, which is not within our reach or our control. Second, even if it were possible, what benefit would result from it? The important thing is that you clarify the Sunnah, and then it is not your concern whether it was followed or not. This is what occurred to me on this occasion. Indeed, many people do not pay attention to the distinction between moving the finger, lowering it, and raising it. Therefore, we strive, according to our capacity and our awareness—and what we miss is more—to remind and advise our brothers who are with us on the straight path, if Allah wills. Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. As for when we see a person who is far from the Sunnah, continuing to discuss with him the difference between moving, lowering, and raising is futile. Rather, for the one who is with us, as we said, on the Sunnah, but who thinks that lowering and raising is the Sunnah, it is easy and very simple to remind him that you intended the Sunnah, may Allah reward you with good, but the Sunnah is moving, not lowering and raising. Bring forth what you have.
