How do we respond to the hadiths cited as evidence for the permissibility of gold rings?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : All right, regarding the mention that she had a bracelet.

The Shaykh : Or a ring, yes.

The questioner : What do you say about this cut gold? If one possessed the nisab of it, how do you say that wearing a ring is not allowed?

The Shaykh : No, this issue is different from that issue. You know that the Shari'ah comes in stages. When he saw gold jewelry on the woman's hand and asked her, "Do you pay zakah on it?" at that time, using it was permissible. But in other hadiths, he did not say:
Do you pay zakah on it?
Rather, he had a stick in his hand and struck her, just as he struck the man. There is no difference. The man came to the Messenger (peace be upon him) and he saw a gold ring on his finger, so he struck him with the stick in his hand. The man responded to him and removed the ring and threw it on the ground. This is how the sincere believer acts. He said:
I do not know
Sahih Muslim 2864
He threw it for the sake of Allah.

The questioner : What Allah willed!!

The Shaykh : A woman, the daughter of Khubayrah, who is well known: she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he saw a ring on her finger—or in another wording—a gold bracelet—so he struck her with a stick that was in his hand. She went to Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). Soon, the Messenger entered upon Fatimah and saw a gold chain necklace in her hand. He said:
O Fatimah, would it please you that people would talk and say: Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, has a necklace of fire around her neck?! !
and he rebuked her severely," meaning: he admonished her with great admonition. He left her, and what she did (may Allah be pleased with her) was nothing but sell this gold chain and buy a slave with its price and free him. When the news of her deed reached her Prophet and her father (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him), he said:
Praise be to Allah who saved Fatimah from the Fire
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 64:138
,
Praise be to Allah who saved Fatimah from the Fire
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 64:138
So, if that is the case.

The questioner : So where is the mention of zakah, easy!

The Shaykh: Huh?

The questioner : So where is the mention of zakah in the hadith!

The Shaykh : And finally, what?

The questioner : So where is the mention of zakah.

Another questioner : It was originally forbidden for her.

The Shaykh : We say: When its use was permissible, it obligated zakah. When its use became forbidden, then it no longer obligates zakah. The matter becomes like it was at the beginning: the permissibility of its use. Now, it is forbidden to use it absolutely.

The questioner : Regarding gold for women?

The Shaykh : Yes.

Another questioner : How can he say that it is permissible for women!

The questioner :
Permissible for the women of my Ummah, forbidden for the men are silk and gold
.

The Shaykh : Yes, and this is the problem of problems. They say what they say, and they ignore these hadiths, some of which I mentioned to you. The famous hadith:
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to his Companions one day with gold in one hand and silk in the other, and he said (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him): These two are forbidden for the males of my Ummah, permissible for the females
This hadith establishes the rule: "Gold and silk are forbidden for men, permissible for women." But this is not absolute. Look now at the previous example: this plate is gold. Must a woman use it? This plate, this dish, this bowl is not permissible. The hadith is saying:
Gold and silk are permissible for females
Why do we say this is not permissible? Because there is a hadith that specifies this general hadith:
Permissible for women
He said (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him):
If anyone drinks from a vessel of gold or silver, or one containing something of that nature, the fire of jahannam will bubble in his belly.
Mishkat al-Masabih 4285
Therefore, the scholars who rely on the hadith:
Permissible for women
said: No, this is not with this absoluteness and comprehensiveness. Gold and silver plates are forbidden for women, just as they are forbidden for men as well. Therefore, we say: It is not permissible to rely solely on his saying (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him):
Permissible for women
and stop there, and turn away from the other hadiths, like the hadith:
Whoever eats or drinks
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 721Sahih (Darussalam)
Also, we do not rely on the hadith alone, and we see that he struck the woman in her hand with a gold bracelet, and he rebuked Fatimah. He rebuked her, and she was his daughter: he saw it in her hand, not around her neck, but this indicates.

The questioner : Without her wearing it!

The Shaykh : That is it. And he said:
Would it please you that people would talk and say: Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, has a necklace or a chain of fire around her neck?! !
and he rebuked her. Meaning: he admonished her severely. Therefore, (may Allah be pleased with her) she responded to the desire of her father and her Prophet, so she sold it. And as expiation for what she did: she freed the slave, she freed the slave. So he said (peace be upon him):
Praise be to Allah who saved Fatimah from the Fire
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 64:138
Why? Because she was wearing this forbidden jewelry.

The questioner : By Allah, O Shaykh, every time one...

The Shaykh : Yes, except whom Allah protects, except whom who grew up in the da'wah, the da'wah of the Book and the Sunnah.

The questioner : Studying fiqh!

The Shaykh : That is it.
