What is the ruling on women wearing gold jewelry?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding women wearing gold jewelry?

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : Is there any prohibition?

The Shaykh : Of course, there is a prohibition, and it is not from me.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Rather, it is from the Prophet of men and women.

Another questioner: (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : And that is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever loves to put a necklace of fire around his beloved's neck, let him put a necklace of gold around it. And whoever loves to put a bracelet of fire on his beloved's arm, let him put a bracelet of gold on it. And whoever loves to put a ring of fire on his beloved's finger, let him put a ring of gold on it. As for silver, play with it, play with it, play with it.
.

The questioner : ... May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Among them, according to what is established in the schools of jurisprudence followed today, the four schools.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : They all agree that gold is permissible for women absolutely.

The questioner : Absolutely, yes.

The Shaykh : But it is not so absolutely, because they overlook this, and if we assume the best ofThe Shaykh : and others, we cannot assume the best of all of them, for some of them certainly overlook it. This is because the schools of jurisprudence that say gold is permissible for women have excluded gold vessels from that, but in terms of their style of writing, they caused many scholars to get into trouble when they state categorically in the chapter on clothing that it is permissible for a woman to wear gold absolutely. They got into trouble with this categorization and forgot what is mentioned in the same books of the schools in the chapter on eating and drinking, that whoever eats from gold or silver vessels is as if he is pouring the fire of Hell into his belly. So this correct text is explicit that it is not permissible for women to eat from gold vessels, nor from silver vessels. Therefore, the statement that gold is absolutely lawful for women contradicts the schools of the four Imams as well. Is this observation clear?

The questioner : Clarify it for me, but may Allah reward you with good, Shaykh. What is meant by gold jewelry? I mean, if the gold is in this shape, for example, for example

The Shaykh : Before that, my brother, before that.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : You mentioned some of the noble Shaykhs, and I want to draw attention to where the error lies.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : The statement that gold is absolutely lawful for women is an error, because they agree with us that gold vessels are forbidden for women. So what do they do with his saying (peace be upon him) by which they argue against us:
These two are forbidden for the males of my nation, and permitted to the females.
Sunan Ibn Majah 3595Sahih (Darussalam)
They argue with this hadith, yes?

Another questioner : The hadith is not authentic?

The Shaykh : No, I am saying from the jurisprudential perspective, the hadith is authentic. They argue with this hadith
permissible for its females حل لإناثها
meaning absolutely, but they do not take it absolutely because they say gold vessels are forbidden even for women. So what do they do with this hadith? They do not circle around this issue. We circle around it and say this hadith is a general text. A general text that includes all gold: gold vessels, gold bracelets, gold rings, gold necklaces, all of it is included in this general text. But from the jurisprudential perspective, if a general text and a specific text come, is the specific text struck by the general text, meaning the general text is applied in its generality and the specific text is ignored, or is the opposite correct? The opposite is correct. It is said this text is general, but it was specified by such and such. So now, when we debate these people, we say to them: You agreed with us in not saying gold is absolutely lawful for women when you said gold vessels are forbidden for women. So what did you do? You made it lawful for females except for gold vessels. We added to that: except for gold jewelry. You may demand proof from us, and we have done so and brought many proofs that what is of gold jewelry, and these are the three things: the gold ring, the gold bracelet, the gold necklace. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them, and he even became angry with his daughter, the mistress of the women of the world, except for what was excluded, which was Fatimah, when he saw a chain of gold on her hand, he said to her:
O Fatimah, do you like that people will talk and say, "Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, has a chain of gold around her neck," and she will be severely punished? And he left her, and she did nothing but sell the chain and buy a slave with its price and free him. When the news of her deed reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Praise be to Allah who saved Fatimah from the Fire.
What did Fatimah do? She was almost going to put a chain of fire around her neck because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the first hadith:
if anyone wants to put a bracelet of fire on one he loves let him put a gold bracelet on him
Mishkat al-Masabih 4401
And before this statement of his (peace and blessings be upon him) to his daughter Fatimah, he had entered upon a woman known as the daughter of Hubayrah, or the daughter of Hubayrah, and he found a ring of gold on her finger, meaning a gold ring, so he struck her with a stick in his hand. She went to Fatimah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was entering upon Fatimah, so the daughter of Hubayrah heard what she had not heard there in the presence of his daughter (peace and blessings be upon him), what you heard just now:
Do you like that people will talk and say that Fatimah has a chain of gold around her neck, or he said: a chain of fire, and she will be severely punished?
So the Lady Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) expiated for her purchase of this chain by selling it and buying a slave and freeing him for Allah. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased after he had been angry and said:
Praise be to Allah who saved Fatimah from the Fire.
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 64:138
So we say it is lawful for females except for gold vessels and except for gold jewelry. So there is no contradiction between the general texts and the specific texts, like
Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters
[An-Nisa 4:23]
and so on
And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these
[An-Nisa 4:24]
while there are many, many forbidden things, and the prohibition came in hadiths, so these hadiths specify that verse and its like. Similarly,
Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
so it specified carrion by excluding the carrion of fish and locusts, and it specified blood by excluding the liver and spleen. This is a known rule among all scholars: specifying the general text by the specific text. This is all I have as an answer to this question.
