The Shaykh’s explanation of how some Muslims today deceive regarding what Allah has forbidden by naming things other than their true names.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Despite this, there are found among Muslims today those who deceive regarding the consumption of riba (usury or interest) under the name of sale. The Messenger (peace be upon him) also warned us against falling into another forbidden matter, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
There will certainly be among my Ummah (the Muslim community) people who will consider intoxicants lawful, naming them other than their true name. لَيكونَنَّ في أمَّتي أقوامٌ يستحلُّون الخمرَ يُسَمُّونها بغير اسمها
. They drink intoxicants and consider them lawful. How do they consider them lawful? By naming them other than their true name. Did this report come true? Yes. In the old Arabic naming conventions, many of those afflicted with the consumption and drinking of intoxicants used to give them a pleasant name, just as they did with riba (usury or interest). They called riba (usury or interest) "profit." They called the intoxicant forbidden in Islam... what do they call it? "Nabeeth," meaning a pleasant name. They claimed that the ruling was pleasant, but the reality is that this nabeeth is this forbidden drink. As for the modern names that have appeared today, speak of them and there is no harm. Whiskey, champagne, and beverages. This is the most vile thing. What are "spirituous" beverages? And what are "fine arts"? They also call dancing "fine arts." The dancing of men and women, the dancing of naked women in front of men. All of this is considered "fine arts." They name it other than its true name. It is true that we have imitated the Jews and the Christians, so the punishment of our Lord became due upon us. For Allah (Mighty and Majestic) does not show favoritism. He does not destroy the Jews or humiliate them except because of their deviation from their religion. If Muslims deviate from their religion, will their Lord not hold them accountable and not take revenge upon them? There is no favoritism with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He said (Mighty and Majestic):
Paradise is not [obtained] by your wishful thinking nor by that of the People of the Scripture. Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ
[An-Nisa 4:123]
There is no difference between a Muslim and a non-Muslim.
Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed for it مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ
[An-Nisa 4:123]
