The questioner : Regarding the interpretation of His saying, the Exalted:
And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come]. ولقد علمنا المستقدمين منكم ولقد علمنا المستأخرين
[Al-Hijr 15:24]
, one of the brothers tasked us with asking whether you cited a narration that is said to be denounced?

The Shaykh : If the meaning of “denounced” is that a trustworthy narrator narrated it alone—and this is used sometimes, though rarely—then it is possible. But if the meaning of “denounced” is the general technical term, i.e., that a weak narrator narrated it alone, then that is not the case. I have spoken about the authenticity of this hadith in some of my recent investigations, and I am certain that this hadith will appear in the new edition of my book, “The Muslim Woman’s Veil.” It may perhaps be attributed to another source that I do not recall at the moment, so the hadith has a sound chain of narration.

The questioner : Ibn Kathir stated that Muslim narrated it, and Abu Mahzurah is in its chain.

The Shaykh : No, Muslim did not narrate it. I think this is from your transmission to you, and he is mistaken.
