Is the phrase "the hadith is not well-known" synonymous with "the hadith is denounced"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, you mentioned, meaning, al-Bukhari's statement that a hadith is denounced (munkar). Sometimes he says so-and-so's hadith is not well-known. And sometimes it occurs to me that the phrase "well-known hadith" means a known hadith, and that "denounced" (munkar) is its opposite.

The Shaykh : It is the opposite.

The questioner : So, when he says "the hadith is not well-known," does it mean the same as "the hadith is denounced"?

The Shaykh : No, no. It is milder, or closer to indicating severe denunciation.

The questioner : Yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : Which is what he means by saying "the hadith is denounced."

The questioner : Yes, may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : And may He bless you.

The questioner : Now, I heard you in the answer say that some students of knowledge who engage in the critique and vindication of narrators, and perhaps in authenticating and weakening hadiths. I wanted to know the difference between the two phrases.

The Shaykh : You know, but perhaps others do not.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : I mean, it is not the case that merely because a knowledgeable student knows some of the principles of jurisprudence or the principles of hadith, that if he studies the principles of jurisprudence he becomes a jurist, or if he studies the principles of hadith he becomes a hadith scholar who can authenticate and weaken. This requires practice, and very long-term practice, by applying the principles to the branches. And in reality, as long as our youth are still young in age, they are still young in knowledge. And whoever knows himself knows his Lord. Even if we do not find a basis for this hadith, its meaning is subtle. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : And may He bless you.
