What is the difference between jihad in the path of Allah and jihad in Allah? And what is the ruling on introducing a new opinion in the interpretation of the Qur'an?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, and may prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.
... the verses of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways والذين جاهدوا فينا لنهدينَّهم سبلنا
[Al-'Ankabut 29:69]
, they said: The one who is killed in the path of Allah is a martyr, and the one who is killed in Allah is in ... ...?

The Shaykh : Yes, we say:
"And claims, unless you establish for them *** proofs, their offspring are claimants"
And better than that is His saying (the Exalted):
Say, "Produce your proof, if you should be truthful." قل هاتوا برهانكم إن كنتم صادقين
[Al-Baqarah 2:111]
. This is verbal philosophy, and on our methodology it is very clear; we say to them: Who interpreted the verse with this interpretation of yours? It is either an innovated interpretation; so it is rejected against you; due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who innovates things in our affairs من أحدثَ في أمرنا هذا
Sahih Muslim 1718a
. And there is no doubt that the interpretation of the Qur'an is part of the matter of Islam and the religion of Islam, so whoever innovates a new interpretation in the interpretation, it is rejected against him. And Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) in his treatise in "Introduction to Interpretation" mentioned that if there are two opinions from scholars of interpretation, it is not permissible to bring a third opinion, or if there are three opinions, it is not permissible to bring a fourth opinion, and so on. So if there are two opinions that came from the Salaf for the interpretation of the verse, you may choose either of them within the limits of your scholarly conviction, but it is not permissible for you to bring a third opinion; because in that you have contradicted the path of the believers. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says in the well-known verse:
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination. ومن يشاقق الرسول من بعد ما تبيَّن له الهدى ويتَّبع غير سبيل المؤمنين نولِّه ما تولَّى ونصله جهنَّم وساءت مصيرًا
[An-Nisa 4:115]
. So it is easy to contradict the path of the believers when some of the later scholars interpret the verse with other than the interpretation of the righteous Salaf. And therefore, the refutation of these people is from this path. And another thing: Jihad of the self is without doubt greater than jihad of the tongue, or what did they call it in your speech? What is it?

The questioner : The one who is killed in the path of Allah is a martyr, and the one who is killed in Allah is ... .

The Shaykh : What does "killed in Allah" mean? What do they intend by that?

The questioner : This is a rank ... .

The Shaykh : No problem, before we know the rank, what do they intend by "killed in Allah"? What is meant by that? That is, killed in the path of Allah, is it said that this one was not killed in Allah? Is it said that the one who was killed in the path of Allah was not killed in Allah? This is a string of words, a string of words; and therefore I said earlier it is philosophy, but we want to understand from them: what is the opposite meaning of the one who was killed in the path of Allah when they say "and the one who was killed in Allah"? That is, killed out of love for Allah, for example?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Good, killed in the love of Allah, how was he killed? That is, he died - as they say in our region in Syria - so-and-so died the death of his Lord, what do they intend? That is, an ordinary natural death; as came from Khalid ibn al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), he said. What is the word narrated about him?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, yes, "There is no place in my body - what? - a span of a cubit except that it has a strike or a stab or a shot; so may the eyes of the cowards not sleep - what? -", he is encouraging courage, and that a person's term is coming, and here is his complete speech now: "And here I am dying on the bed as a donkey dies," or similar words, "so may the eyes of the cowards not sleep." So then, a person either dies a martyr killed in the path of Allah, or he dies as animals die, bursting in their place. So is there a death more beautiful, more prescribed, and more honorable for the one who died in Allah than jihad in the path of Allah? This is all distortion of words, and diverting people from the true jihad to an imagined jihad. And therefore they became famous for narrating the weak hadith that is not authentic; that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from jihad and said:
We returned from the lesser jihad to the greater jihad رجعنا من الجهاد الأصغر إلى الجهاد الأكبر
, and it is jihad of the self. All people now claim that they are fighting their selves, but tell them: go and fight, and they hesitate and delay.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Oh, what is the matter, let us hurry, it has become twelve o'clock.
Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise, I testify that there is no god but You, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.
