Do we build mosques from zakah?

The Shaykh : Do we build mosques from zakah? No, we do not build them from zakah, nor do we repair roads from zakah. This is because Allah the Exalted said: If we were to make this inclusive and general, the restriction derived from His saying: would serve no purpose. For the restriction, as the scholars have stated, necessitates affirming the ruling for what is mentioned and negating it for everything else. If we were to say that it is general for all paths of good, then the restriction here would be of no benefit. And even if it did have a benefit, that benefit would be very slight.
