Benefits from the Hadith of Abu al-Darda

The Shaykh : This hadith points to many benefits:
First: The term "those who curse" (al-La'aniyyin) is a form of exaggeration, and this indicates that a person may sometimes curse something that does not deserve to be cursed. It may be that they are among the sincere believers (Siddiqin) and the martyrs (Shuhada), because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) negated in this hadith that those who curse—those who exaggerate and frequently curse—should be martyrs or intercessors. This form indicates that it does not contradict a Muslim being a complete believer in faith, a sincere believer, and a martyr that he may occasionally commit some slips in the form of cursing. It is the exaggeration in cursing that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned, stating that those characterized by this exaggeration are not fit to be martyrs or intercessors on the Day of Resurrection.
Among those benefits is the affirmation of intercession in this hadith for other than the messengers and prophets. This is a virtue in which these sincere believers, whose characteristic is that they do not frequently curse, share with the prophets in interceding for people on the Day of Resurrection. This is a great virtue, as is apparent and clear.
And from that, if we observe the form of exaggeration "those who curse," we say that it does not contradict that one of them may occasionally curse without right. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who is the most perfect of people, sometimes had something of that issue arise from him. But Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), in order to complete His favor, reward, and recompense for him, inspired him to supplicate to his Lord, sayingSahih Muslim 2600a. This indicates that the human trait sometimes overcame the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so that what was not befitting the station of prophethood and messengership would arise from him. Therefore, he supplicated to his Lord (Mighty and Majestic) to make what might arise from him in the form of placing a curse in the wrong place, whether by mistake or anger, to turn the curse that was directed by him toward a certain man into mercy and purification for that man. If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had something of that happen to him, then the sincere believers, whose rank is undoubtedly below the rank of prophethood and messengership, are more deserving that something of that might happen to them. However, it is not befitting for them to frequent it. For a certain reason, the form came with exaggeration: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 316
