The Shaykh : Then, if we were to ask a questioner: Is it better to remain fasting and delay the 'Umrah until night if one arrives during the day, or is it better to break the fast to perform the 'Umrah during the day upon arrival? The answer is: The second option is better, so that one hastens to complete the 'Umrah, because the 'Umrah is the purpose of his presence in Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would hasten to perform it, to the extent that he would dismount his mount at the gate of the mosque, enter, and perform his 'Umrah. Now, as for this journey, if a person is traveling, we said that he is given the choice between fasting and breaking the fast. But which is better? If fasting is difficult for him, then breaking the fast is better. If it is not difficult, the scholars have differed on this, and the stronger position is that fasting is better.
