Does Allah descend to the lowest heaven every night with His knowledge or with His essence?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Does Allah descend to the lowest heaven with His knowledge or with His essence?

The Shaykh : With His essence. If He intended with His knowledge, He would have said with His knowledge. Rather, we say to this questioner: complete the hadith, because this is the problem of the *ta'til* (denial of the divine attributes) people; they take a part of the hadith. The hadith says
Allah descends every night to the lowest heaven and says, "Is there anyone who asks, so I give him? ينزل الله في كل ليلةٍ إلى السماء الدنيا فيقول ألا هل من سائلٍ فأعطيه؟
, and so on. So here, if we interpret "Allah descends" to mean His knowledge, and some have said His mercy, this is the *ta'wil* (figurative interpretation) of the *ta'til* people. But this *ta'wil* becomes manifestly false when you look at the complete hadith. Does mercy say, "Is there anyone who asks, so I give? Is there anyone who seeks forgiveness, so I forgive him?" Does mercy speak like that? Far be it from Allah. This is *ta'til* itself. Yes.
