What is Ibn 'Abbas's interpretation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And they shall not display their adornment except what appears of it"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the statement of Ibn al-'Abbas, our Shaykh, in this matter?

The Shaykh : Ibn 'Abbas interpreted this verse as recorded in the Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah in his interpretation of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
except that which [necessarily] appears thereof إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا
[An-Nur 24:31]
He said: "The face and the hands." Their exaggeration in refuting me is such that they do not realize that they are refuting the Interpreter of the Qur'an. And why did they not refute Ibn 'Abbas, or those among the Imams who adopted his view, in the spirit of advising the Ummah? It was only when Al-Albani came and spread this scientific truth and provided for it the evidence from the Shari'ah that they rose up, like one man, the Salafi among them and the Khalafi, all alike, refuting us, even though the evidence is with us. They bring the previous verse we mentioned,
to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلابِيبِهِنّ
[Al-Ahzab 33:59]
, and interpret it with interpretations that are not found in the Book or the Sunnah; they are merely statements, the least of which can be said is that they contradict the Interpreter of the Qur'an.

The questioner : Do you remember, Shaykh, the statement of Ibn Hazm in this issue?

The Shaykh : Who's statement?

The questioner : Ibn Hazm.

The Shaykh : Yes, Ibn Hazm's statement in this issue.

The questioner : And Ibn Taymiyyah?

The Shaykh : No, it is not with us.
