Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: {And they shall not display their adornment except what appears of it}

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And another point is that the Book of Allah indicates the opposite of this expansion in defining the awrah of a woman in relation to her Muslim sister. The scholars of tafsir (exegesis) mention that a woman has two types of adornment: apparent adornment and hidden adornment, and they derived this from two noble verses.
The first verse is the saying of our Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He:
not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof ولا يبدين زينتهن إلا ما ظهر منها
[An-Nur 24:31]
not expose their adornment ولا يبدين زينتهن
[An-Nur 24:31]
to non-mahram men
except that which [necessarily] appears thereof إلا ما ظهر منها
[An-Nur 24:31]
. Thus, the apparent adornment is related to non-mahram men. And the apparent adornment, as established in more than one hadith traced to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), is for the woman only the face and the two hands. Everything else is the hidden adornment, and it is not permissible for her to display any of it before those who are strangers to her.
