Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on listening to Islamic anthems, given the many questions asked about them and the many disagreements and differences that have occurred among the general public regarding them, knowing that they are merely recitations of Islamic poetry, including poetry of valor and reminders of the end of man, among other purposeful topics? We ask for clarification for the sake of benefit, O honorable Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Yes. The anthems that are sermons mentioning the state of the person at death, the state of the person after burial, and the state of the Day of Resurrection: listening to them is required. The righteous predecessors used to listen to them because they soften the heart, cause the eye to weep, and humble the limbs, and they have benefit.
The anthems of valor that are recited with voices that contain no fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and are not accompanied by instruments of amusement, such as the hand drum or others, are also permissible. However, this is on the condition that they do not include inciting the people against the authorities. If they include that, then it is not permissible to listen to them.
The third, the third category of these Islamic anthems: those that are recited in the manner of reciting low and vile songs, or are recited accompanied by the hand drum, or are recited with beautiful, enticing voices. It is not permissible to listen to these.
These are three categories of anthems that are said to be Islamic anthems. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
