The Shaykh spoke about mercy, even toward animals, even in their slaughter, and that they possess an intellect commensurate with their animal nature

The Shaykh : And I am pleased, on this occasion, that one of the scholars of Yemen, who isThe Shaykh : Salih al-Muqabili, the author of a very great book titled *Al-'Alam al-Shamikh fi Ithar al-Haqq 'ala al-Abwa' wa al-Mashayikh* (The Towering Flag in Preferring the Truth over Fathers and Shaykhs)

The questioner : O, Glorified is Allah

The Shaykh : This man spoke in this book about a belief adopted by the extremists of the Sufis, who say that the Creator and the created are one and the same, and they say there is nothing in the universe but Allah, and they say everything you see with your eyes is Allah. Indeed, one of them said, "And the dog and the pig are nothing but our God, and Allah is nothing but a monk in a church"

The questioner : I seek refuge in Allah

The Shaykh : Ah, these people are called the people of "Wahdat al-Wujud" (the Oneness of Existence), meaning they say there is no Creator and no created, but only one thing. Therefore, they classify people regarding faith in Allah (Mighty and Majestic) into three categories: the general Muslims, their scholars, and the common people. The tawhid (oneness of Allah) of these people is "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no deity but Allah). This is the lowest category. The one slightly higher has the tawhid "Huwa Huwa" (He is He), not "La ilaha illa Allah." Why? Because "La ilaha illa Allah" affirms something and negates something; that is, it affirms two existences: the necessary existence, which is "Allah," and the contingent existence, which is the servants of Allah and His creation. They say this is the tawhid of the common people. But a higher tawhid than this is the tawhid of the special ones, which is "Huwa Huwa." As for "La ilaha illa Huwa," that is an error in their view. The tawhid of the special ones is "Huwa Huwa," and the tawhid of the special among the special is "Huwa" (He) alone. "Huwa" is another expression for "He," meaning there is no other than Him. As for me, you, and all the created things, we are "Allah." Everything you see with your eyes is Allah. This is what they said. The point is that it was said to one of them: "O Shaykh, you say about these people that they are disbelievers and misguided, and so on, but by Allah, sometimes we hear from them words containing wisdom." He said: "There is nothing strange in that; it is intellect. There is nothing strange, for the donkey also has intellect and understanding commensurate with its donkey nature. What is the proof?" He said: "The proof is that when it is on a journey with its driver, and they pass by a hole, it falls in with the rider. The second time they pass by that road, you find it has avoided it. So it has understanding, but understanding commensurate with its donkey nature."

The questioner : Ah

The Shaykh : Ah
