Anesthetizing an animal before slaughtering it
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of the fatwa number ( 7301 )
Q 4: If an animal is anesthetized and does not die, as the doctor confirms, and is then slaughtered as the Shari'ah prescribes, whether the anesthesia is by a substance or an anesthetic bullet, is its meat permissible?
A 4: If the situation is as described, with the animal remaining alive after being hit until its slaughter is completed, it is permissible to eat it. However, shocking it with electricity before slaughter, or hitting it with a bullet or the like, is not permissible; because of the harm it causes to the animal, unless it cannot be slaughtered or its throat cut except by that means, such as a stubborn animal, or if one is unable to slaughter it lawfully, in which case it is permissible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
