The questioner : Praise be to Allah, may peace and mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you. Is the Friday bath obligatory for the one in i'tikaf, and what is the meaning of the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the first hour and the second hour to the end of the hadith?

The Shaykh : The Friday bath is obligatory for every person who has reached puberty, meaning: for every adult, whether he is in i'tikaf or not.
Some people think that his saying:
for every adult على كل محتلم
means that it is obligatory for the one who has reached puberty. What is your opinion of this understanding? This understanding is not correct, because the one who has reached puberty must perform ghusl due to wet dreams, not due to Friday, whether he has a wet dream on Friday or on a day other than Friday. However, the intended meaning of "the one who has reached puberty" is the one who has attained maturity, because nothing from the acts of worship is obligatory for the immature except what relates to wealth, such as zakah, which is obligatory for the immature just as it is obligatory for the mature.
As for the questioner's request to specify the hour, we say: The hours that have passed for us are five. He divided the time from the rising of the sun to the arrival of the imam into five parts. This differs in the days of summer from the days of winter. Which are longer? The days of summer. The hour may correspond to the conventional time hour, it may be less, and it may be more.
