Is it permissible to determine the sex of the fetus as male or female if medicine is capable of doing so?

The questioner : A man and his wife went to a doctor to check the pregnancy... She told her, "You are now ready for pregnancy. Do you want a boy or a girl?" The man said, "I seek forgiveness from Allah, what is this talk?" She said, "We have reached a point in science where we have found that if you want a girl, we can give you something that will result in a girl, or specific medicines. If you want a boy, it will be a boy." He said, "I seek forgiveness from Allah. In any case, we prefer a boy." He asked, "Is this possible?" When he asked me this question, I remembered the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

The Shaykh : We ask how these people who make this claim are able to make it male or female. We do not want... This is knowledge... We ask the male or female doctor.

The questioner : We expanded our inquiry with some people. One of them said that there are those who give the woman pills or a specific medicine that delay the egg so that it does not descend, whereby the man's fluid prevails over the woman's fluid. If it prevails or precedes, it becomes male. From this perspective, their statement may be permissible.

The Shaykh : No, I do not think so. In any case, in such cases, we must ask Muslim doctors who do not place their knowledge above their religion. And these may be opinions that have not become scientific fact.
