Medical questions from the Shaykh to some doctors regarding his illness.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : To two of our brothers who are doctors, one of whom claims to be a doctor in what do you call it, Arab medicine? Arab medicine, and the other practices non-Arab medicine—laughs—I want to ask them, and they are hearing my voice which is barely audible, and what is in the heart of meanings is apparent. So, does continuing to speak benefit me medically in a material sense? As for the hereafter, it benefits me even if it leads to death. Does continuing to speak benefit me from a medical standpoint? And if it benefits me, I will continue as you have heard. If it does not benefit me, I will not continue, but I will consult you. What is your opinion? Number one is here and number two is there, because there is Arab medicine there and non-Arab medicine here—laughs—
The doctor: In fact, there is this matter; if there is something in the heart...

The Shaykh : No, the heart is young, praise be to Allah, but the larynx is inflamed, and since yesterday I have been spitting blood. Yes, Arab medicine may be more precise in its matter than non-Arab medicine. Arab medicine does not try to know precisely what the patient is complaining of. So you started building your answer on the assumption that the heart is diseased, but it should be examined before answering. Non-Arab medicine examines the patient from his head to the soles of his feet. Yes, the point is that I am not complaining now. We often sit in such gatherings, by the grace of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. I do not complain except of the inflammation of the larynx for about two weeks, and from yesterday until this morning I have been spitting blood. So, within the limits I set earlier, does continuing to speak benefit me, or should I be a listener?

The questioner : May Allah will it, it will not harm you, and we will not tire you, may Allah will it. But it will not harm, meaning why? Because if the heart is sound in the first degree and the lungs are also sound, then this inflammation of the larynx is partial and can be treated easily in Arab medicine. And I have a draft of a new book; may Allah will it, I will choose an Arab medicine for you and buy it for you tomorrow, may Allah will it.

The Shaykh : But is it in your medicine to treat the disease before it spreads and widens, or do we let it widen and then treat it?

The questioner : If the disease comes, you must also attack it; you must stop it at its limit and not let it spread.

The Shaykh : This statement contradicts your first statement.

The questioner : Why?

The Shaykh : Because you say that you are proceeding in your speech, and even if the disease increases, I will treat it with such and such.

The questioner : No, because I know that the heart, may Allah will it, is...

The Shaykh : I am speaking only about the larynx.

The questioner : The larynx, yes.

The Shaykh : No problem, let the disease and inflammation in the larynx spread, on the pretext that we will treat it, or do we treat it immediately?

The questioner : Yesterday, the doctor mentioned this matter to me, and I told him to...The Shaykh : drink milk, ginger, and honey.

The Shaykh : I have already done that, but I am asking about now.

The questioner : Currently, there is no harm in giving speech, but we do not want you to strain yourself in this session. We will rest you, may Allah will it, from answering some of the questions, if that does not tire you. But if you feel effort and fatigue, there is no harm in resting.

The Shaykh : The matter has become confused for me, Abu Muhammad, because you mean the fatigue of the body or the larynx.

The questioner : I mean the larynx and the body.

The Shaykh : No, the body is young as you say, but we are talking about the larynx.

The questioner : If there is pain, stop speaking.

The Shaykh : We are asking whether the larynx, given that it has reached this extent of inflammation and spitting blood, is benefited by increasing its exertion or by resting it?

The questioner : By resting it.

The Shaykh : So that is the answer.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : I relied on this answer.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : We will see the Western answer there. The answer comes from me, not from you, but we are asking the doctors to see what their opinion is. Where is the doctor? Doctor...

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : I did not hear what your colleague said, and I do not know if your expression, colleague, is correct or not? Because he is of one type and you are of another type...

The questioner : He is herbal medicine and I am surgery; we are opposites, meaning...

The Shaykh : Well, what is your opinion?

The questioner : It is correct, as long as the blood has started to flow, this is evidence that the tonsils, may Allah will it, have undergone this explosion that was causing the inflammation, which was hindering the voice and preventing you from speaking. So now, may Allah will it, there is no harm in speaking, because as long as the tonsils themselves have undergone this explosion, the outflow of blood that was causing the swelling, may Allah the Exalted will it, this is good if you manage your speech.

The questioner : As the Arab proverb says, "When his blood flows, his worry is relieved"—laughsThe Shaykh : AndThe questioner : and

The Shaykh : Bring the questions, please.

The questioner : Of course, the questions are very scientific, so these are relatively the last ones until...

The Shaykh: Okay
