Do you see the validity of a person who has performed dry ablution leading a person who has performed ablution?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, likewise, regarding the issue of a person who has performed dry ablution leading a person who has performed ablution, do you consider it valid?

The Shaykh : How could it not be?

The questioner : And the evidence for that is the story of the Companion who led [the prayer].

The Shaykh : Yes. The Companion, are you mentioning him?

The questioner : Yes, that is right.

The Shaykh : What is it?

The questioner : 'Amr ibn al-'As.

The Shaykh : 'Amr ibn al-'As was with his companions in a military expedition, and he experienced major ritual impurity. The weather was cold, so he performed dry ablution. It was not mentioned in the narration, so I say that in one way or another, some of his companions knew that he prayed with them while in a state of major ritual impurity, meaning he had not taken a full ritual bath. So they conveyed his news to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he asked him about the news. He said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah, I feared for myself, and Allah Mighty and Majestic says, and do not throw your own hands into destruction. And he (peace be upon him) laughed. and he approved of it. So this hadith provides us with two benefits.
The first is what we are currently discussing: it is permissible for one who has taken a full ritual bath or performed ablution to follow in prayer one who has performed dry ablution, whether his dry ablution was for major ritual impurity or minor ritual impurity.
The other benefit is that it is permissible for one in a state of major ritual impurity to perform dry ablution if he fears for his safety from using cold water on a cold day. However, here, one must use means to warm the water if the fear is only from the cold water. But if the fear is from another aspect, namely the general weather and its coldness, then it may not suffice for him to take a full ritual bath; rather, he may increase harm with this hot water on a cold day, because it is a difference between a person being in his home, sheltered, and being in the open desert. In that case, he may be exposed to more harm than if he had not performed dry ablution. One should consider these matters so that a person is aware of his religion. This is the hadith.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Yes.
