Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, is it from the Sunnah to raise the hands during the supplication of qunut, with the evidence mentioned in detail?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is from the Sunnah for a person to raise his hands during the qunut, specifically during the supplication of qunut, because this was reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his qunut when he used to perform qunut in the obligatory prayers during times of calamity. It is also authentically reported from the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, that he raised his hands in the qunut of witr. It is well known that the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, is one of the Rightly Guided Caliphs whom we are commanded to follow. Therefore, raising the hands during the qunut of witr is a Sunnah, whether for the imam, the one praying behind him, or the one praying alone.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : As for raising the hands, whenever you perform qunut, raise your hands.
