The Importance of Islamic Unity and How to Achieve It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The topic now is jihad... One who studies the hadith of Hudhayfah with patience and deliberation will see that the jihad which Muslims today seek is not permissible to be carried out through the impulsive actions of individuals who do not possess the quality mentioned by the Messenger (peace be upon him) in the hadith of Hudhayfah. And it is sufficient for us what we have suffered due to our deviation from adhering to the Sunnah of our Prophet (peace be upon him). The incident at the Makkah Haram is not far from us, and neither is...
The student : ...jihad without...

The Shaykh: Yes.
The student : ...like this, I mean.

The Shaykh : These people were calling for jihad.
The student : They were calling for a caliph, they were not calling for jihad, they were calling for a caliph...

The Shaykh : I will not discuss this topic with you.
The student: All right.

The Shaykh : But when you read their letters, you see how they were calling for jihad. Also, it is not far from us what happened in Syria; it was all due to the division of the Muslims. So, first of all, the obligation of the Muslims is unity, and this unity is not achieved except through a caliph. All the efforts of the Muslims must be directed toward achieving this matter. We are on the path of... its achievement begins with purification and education, not with declaring jihad. We are not able to fight jihad, we are not able to fight jihad, and reality is the greatest proof. This is Lebanon, it will go, and this is Palestine, it has gone, and now Syria has almost gone. Why? Because the Muslims are divided. And you acknowledge that there are groups, do you not notice that these groups differ from one another in the most extreme way? They are in dispute. And in the Qur'an there are verses that mention this, perhaps I am better than you at stating that disagreement and dispute... is failure.
and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart وَلَا تَنَازَعُوا فَتَفْشَلُوا وَتَذْهَبَ رِيحُكُمْ
[Al-Anfal 8:46]
That is your strength. Therefore, their number is large, but they are as the authentic hadith says:
you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent أنتم يومئذٍ كثير ، ولكنَّكم غثاء كغثاء السيل
Sunan Abi Dawud 4297Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and the scum of the flood. This is what formed groups in the Muslim society, and you want to make these groups groups recognized as Islamic.
