The Shaykh: Yes, my master.

The questioner: The sacrificial animal.

The Shaykh: The sacrificial animal, Professor. If the bequeather bequeaths a sacrificial animal to be slaughtered from his wealth, it is an act of obedience that must be carried out. If he bequeaths a sacrificial animal to be slaughtered at the expense of another person, that is an encroachment on that person, so it is not carried out. If people voluntarily offer a sacrifice for the soul of so-and-so, then nothing from this sacrifice reaches the person for whom it was offered. This is because Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said in the previous verse:
And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَى
[An-Najm 53:39]
, and because He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: A continuous charity, knowledge by which people derive benefit, pious son who prays for him. إذا مات ابن آدم - وفي رواية : الإنسان - انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث : صدقة جارية ، أو علم يُنتفع به ، أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Riyad as-Salihin 949
. As long as those who offered the sacrifice on his behalf are not his children, then nothing from this sacrifice reaches the person for whom it was offered.

The questioner: His children offered the sacrifice.

The Shaykh: His children offered the sacrifice? I have already given you the answer.

The questioner: No, it is not from...

The Shaykh: It is; not from his earnings, the child is from his father's earnings.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh: As long as it is permissible, eating from it is permissible.

The questioner: The rich, the poor, and the household members eat from it...

The Shaykh: Ah, so when you say: sacrificial animal; do you mean they offered it during the festival? Or on days other than the festival?

The questioner: During the festival.

The Shaykh: The ruling on the sacrificial animal during the festival is as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So eat from it, give charity from it, and store some. فكلوا منها وتصدَّقوا وادَّخروا
.

Another questioner : ... .

The Shaykh:
Eat from it, give charity from it, and store some. كلوا منها وتصدَّقوا وادَّخروا
