Explanation of the waiting period for a divorced woman, whether she is one who menstruates or one who does not.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Third: If she is one who menstruates, then it is three menstrual cycles.
If she is one who does not menstruate in a way that the return of menstruation is not expected, then it is three months.
If it is in a way that the return of menstruation is expected, then she waits until menstruation returns.
Let us look now: a man married an elderly woman who does not menstruate due to her advanced age, and then after consummating the marriage, he divorced her. How long is her waiting period? Three months, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women - if you doubt واللائي يئسن من المحيض من نسائكم إن ارتبتم
[At-Talaq 65:4]
meaning, if you are in doubt about their waiting periods,
then their period is three months فعدتهن ثلاثة أشهر
[At-Talaq 65:4]
. Is that clear? Glory be to Allah, the speech is clear, meaning that Allah the Exalted has detailed marriage, divorce, and inheritance.
Now, if he married a woman who does not menstruate due to her youth, and he consummated the marriage, then divorced her, how long is her waiting period? Three months?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh :
And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women - if you doubt, then their period is three months, and [also for] those who have not menstruated واللائي يئسن من المحيض من نسائكم إن ارتبتم فعدتهن ثلاثة أشهر واللائي لم يحضن
[At-Talaq 65:4]
, meaning, and those who have ceased menstruation are likewise; their waiting period is three months.
