The acts of worship in which people participate alongside the pilgrims.

The Shaykh : Let us briefly turn to the Hajj of the people of other lands, other than the people of Makkah, namely those for whom Hajj was not decreed. Did Allah the Mighty and Majestic compensate them with other acts of worship so that they might participate with the pilgrims in their worship? The answer is yes. The people of other lands participate with the pilgrims in the remembrance of Allah during these ten days. While the pilgrims’ voices resound with the talbiyah, the voices of the people of other lands resound with what? With the tahlil and takbir. This is one point. And while the pilgrims and those performing 'Umrah magnify Allah the Mighty and Majestic by refraining from cutting their hair, we find that the people of other lands who offer the sacrifice draw near to Allah by refraining from cutting their hair, nails, and skin. So, if the ten days enter upon a person and he intends to offer a sacrifice, he must not take anything from his hair, skin, or nails until he has sacrificed. The people of Hajj slaughter their hady on the day of 'Id, and the people of other lands slaughter their udhiyah on the day of 'Id. For this reason, the sacrifices slaughtered on the day of 'Id are among the rituals of Allah the Mighty and Majestic by which a person draws near to Allah through slaughter, not through giving the meat in charity. Giving the meat in charity is undoubtedly an act of drawing near to Allah, but the most important thing is the slaughter as an act of drawing near to Allah the Mighty and Majestic. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distinguished between a sheep for meat and a sheep for sacrifice, saying:
Whoever slaughters before he prays, his sheep is a sheep for meat, and whoever slaughters after the prayer has hit the target of the ritual and the Sunnah of the Muslims. من ذبح قبل أن يصلي فشاته شاة لحم، ومن ذبح بعد الصلاة فقد أصاب النسك وسنة المسلمين
Thus, he distinguished between meat and the sacrifice. For this reason, it is an error for some people to give money to the Relief Authority or other organizations to offer a sacrifice on their behalf in other countries. We say that the udhiyah is a ritual connected to the person himself, so slaughter it yourself with your own hand if you are able, or appoint someone to slaughter it and be present, and eat from it, for Allah commanded eating from it, and indeed He placed eating before feeding others:
So eat of them and فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا
[Al-Hajj 22:28]
For this reason, some scholars held that it is obligatory to eat from the udhiyah. And if one gives money to have a sacrifice offered in another country, can he eat from it? No. So we say: sacrifice in your own country, and send money to your needy Muslim brothers, send them food, send them clothing. The bounty of Allah is vast. But to leave a ritual of Islam to be performed in a land far from you is contrary to what the Sunnah requires. A person does not offer a sacrifice except with an animal that meets four conditions. The first is that it must be from the livestock of the herd, namely camels, cattle, and sheep. The second is that it must reach the age considered valid by the Shari'ah, which is half a year for sheep, one year for goats, two years for cattle, and five years for camels; anything less than that is not valid for sacrifice. The third is that it must be free from defects that prevent its validity. The Prophet (peace be upon him) specified these in his statement:
There are four that will not be accepted as sacrifices: The one-eyed animal that is obviously blind in one eye; the sick animal that is obviously sick; the lame animal with an obvious أربعة لا تجوز في الأضاحي، العوراء البين عورها، والمريضة البين مرضها، والعرجاء البين ضلعها، والعجفاء
Sunan Ibn Majah 3144Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning the emaciated one that has no marrow, i.e., it has no fat. The fourth condition is that it must be within the specified time, which is after the 'Id prayer until three days thereafter. If one slaughters the udhiyah before the prayer, it is not valid, and if one sacrifices after the days of Tashriq have passed, it is not valid. It must be within the days considered valid by the Shari'ah. I ask Allah the Exalted and Glorious to make us and you among those whose Hajj is accepted, whose sins are forgiven, and whose efforts are rewarded, and to accept from us all by His grace and generosity. Indeed, He is the One who is capable of that and has power over it.
And now, with the questions from the brother, Shaykh Mahmud ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Sayyig.
