My paternal brother: when I visit him, his wife comes with him, and she is not wearing a hijab, which forced me to cut off contact with him, but I did not advise my brother. I did advise his wife, and she said to me:

The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I have a paternal brother who lives in a separate house. When I come to visit him and his children, his wife comes to us without wearing a hijab, and sometimes she comes in clothes that go down to the middle of her arms. When I see her in this state, I am in the greatest pain over what happens before my eyes, and I am forced to cut off my visits to my brother and his children, which can last for a week or three. When he sees me, he asks me, "Why don't you come to visit us?" So I make excuses about being busy. I should mention that his wife comes to our house, and I tell her that this action is not permissible. She says to me: "Religion is in the heart." What is your advice to me and to her?

The Shaykh : Yes, what I see is that you should be frank with your brother about the matter, and not make excuses with imaginary busyness. Be frank with your brother, for perhaps he will compel his wife to wear the hijab. That is because it is not permissible for a woman to uncover herself to any of her husband's relatives unless they are among his fathers and grandfathers, or among his sons, his sons' sons, and his daughters' sons. There is no relationship between a man's relatives and his wife unless they are... There is no relationship between the husband's relatives and the wife unless they are among his fathers and grandfathers, or his sons, or his sons' sons, or his daughters' sons, meaning the ancestors and descendants. As for his brothers, uncles, maternal uncles, and his brothers' sons, they have absolutely no relationship with his wife, and they are not among her mahrams. So my advice to this wife is to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in herself first, and to fear Allah the Exalted regarding her husband's brother, because by her action she has created a barrier between him and maintaining the tie with his brother. She is the cause of his cutting off ties with his brother. So my advice first to this brother is to be frank with his brother and say, "Your wife is not doing what is obligatory upon her regarding covering her face and what must be covered."
Second: that he comes to his brother, and when the wife comes, he says, "Go away" or "Cover yourself." Let him be brave, and let him be frank. If a matter is not addressed with frankness, things are lost.
The third matter: I advise this woman to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in herself and in her husband's brother, and indeed in her husband, because her husband is not pleased that his brother cuts off ties with him. As for her saying: "Faith is in the heart," that is a weak and refuted excuse, because if there were faith in the heart, the limbs would be... The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart. ألا وإن في الجسد مضغة إذا صلحت صلح الجسد كله، وإذا فسدت فسد الجسد كله، ألا وهي القلب
Sahih al-Bukhari 52
And is it conceivable that a heart with complete faith does not perform obedience to Allah and does not refrain from His disobedience? The more complete the faith in the heart, the more complete the performance of obedience and the avoidance of disobedience. Yes.
