What are the forms of the prayer of fear?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Perhaps many of our brothers present know that the prayer of fear, which naturally I do not think has been revived in this fitnah that has occurred in this time, has many forms. One of them is that the imam prays two rak'ahs for himself, but the congregation prays only one rak'ah each. This is done by dividing the fighters against the disbelievers into two rows or two groups. Now, the reality is that this matter requires some new fiqh, but what concerns us is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the prayer of fear with his noble Companions in many forms, reaching fifteen methods in terms of narration. However, Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "Only seven methods are authentic." From these authentic methods, the imam stands facing the qiblah, and the enemy may be behind the qiblah, meaning to the north, so the imam cannot face the north; he must face the south. If he prayed with all his Companions, the polytheists might ambush them. Therefore, he would divide the Companions into two groups: one group facing the enemy and one group praying behind him (peace and blessings be upon him). He would pray the first rak'ah, and the group behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit, recite the tashahhud, and say the taslim, then they would go and take the positions of the group that was facing the enemy. Then this group would come and follow the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who is waiting for them standing in the second rak'ah, and he would say the taslim with them. Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have two rak'ahs, and the congregation would have one rak'ah. This is one of the meanings of his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
The prayer of fear is one rak'ah صلاة الخوف ركعة
The prayer of fear is one rak'ah. So, the separation of the group is for a legitimate religious excuse, and this has a basis in the Shari'ah. We should rely on this more than saying that one should pray a voluntary prayer while the obligatory prayer has been called for, which would fall into the core of contradicting his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
When the Iqamah has been called for the Salat then there is no Salat except the obligatory. إذا أقيمت الصلاة فلا صلاة إلا المكتوبة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 421Sahih (Darussalam)
As for the separation, this is undoubtedly easier than that, as I mentioned at the beginning and the end.
Abu Layla : During the engagement, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : I hope the right to ask the question belongs to our brothers whom we came to, and not to those who came with us to them.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
