If they gather around him in the cemetery; how should he act?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : But at the cemetery, everyone wants to ... offer condolences; so how should he act? Meaning, should he run away from them, or stand in the middle, or what exactly?

The Shaykh : He should not stand still, nor should he run away; he should neither stand still nor run away. Rather, he should walk like a person who has been struck by a calamity. In this natural walk of his, he will inevitably encounter Zayd, Bakr, and 'Umar, and they will offer him condolences. However, this does not entail any standing, or any organized and orderly reception, and so on. As for what people do, here is the calamity; therefore, the truth is that reviving the Sunnahs is a very, very excellent deed. A hadith came with the wording:
Whoever revives a Sunnah that was abandoned after me مَن أحيا سنَّةً أُمِيتَتْ من بعدي
, but it is weak in terms of its chain of narration. However, its meaning is correct; because it is among the meanings of his saying (peace be upon him) in the authentic hadith:
He who sets a good precedent in Islam مَن سَنَّ في الإسلام سنَّة حسنة
Sahih Muslim 1017a
. So if the bereaved person is struck by a calamity and buries this deceased and sets off walking; then whoever meets him on the road, or those who accompanied him to the funeral, offer him condolences. Meaning, the matter is much easier than people imagine. How do we implement offering condolences? They have complicated the issue!
