The Shaykh’s mention of the two verses regarding permissible backbiting and his explanation of them.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The scholars stated this to qualify the general principle regarding forbidden backbiting. They said: “Two verses of poetry,” and this is, of course, not from the verses of the poets, but rather from the poetry of the jurists. They said:
“Criticism is not backbiting in six cases: *** the aggrieved, the one who identifies, and the one who warns,
and the one who exposes open sinfulness, the one who seeks a ruling, and the one *** who seeks assistance in removing a wrong.”

One of the scholars compiled these six types in these two verses so that they may be memorized, and each of these types has evidence from the authentic Sunnah.
