The Shaykh : His saying (peace be upon him) to 'Amr ibn al-'As Mishkat al-Masabih 3756 But it should be noted that these two conditions apply to each of the two matters mentioned: the wealth is not wealth in an absolute sense, but good wealth for a man, and not for every man, but only for a good man. So if one is able to acquire lawful, good wealth and he himself is a good man, then how excellent they are, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said. And I am certain that most people cannot fulfill these two conditions: that the wealth is good and that the man himself is good. Because if the wealth is good but he disposes of it in an improper way, then this wealth becomes a calamity and a burden upon him. And if the man is good but his earnings are not good, meaning they are forbidden, then what is the benefit of this wealth?
