What is the ruling on prostrating during supplication outside of prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on prostrating during supplication outside of prayer?

The Shaykh : I do not know that this is prescribed from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It is not among the recommended forms of supplication for a person to prostrate when making du'a, because prostration is a specific, distinct act of worship that must have a religious cause indicated by the Sunnah. However, among the etiquettes of supplication is for a person to raise his hands to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Indeed,
Your Lord is munificent and generous, and is ashamed to turn away empty the hands of His servant when he raises them to Him. الله تعالى حيي كريم يستحي من عبده إذا رفع يديه أن يردهما صفرا
Sunan Abi Dawud 1488Sahih (Al-Albani)
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated that raising the hands is among the causes for the acceptance of supplication in his statement when he mentioned
He then made a mention of a person who travels widely, his hair disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky (and thus makes the supplication): "O Lord, O Lord," whereas his diet is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, and his clothes are unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful. How can then his supplication be accepted? الرجل يطيل السفر، أشعث أغبر، يمد يديه إلى السماء: يا رب! يا رب! ومطعمه حرام، وملبسه حرام، وغذي بالحرام، قال: فأنَّى يستجاب لذلك
Sahih Muslim 1015
This indicates that raising the hands during supplication is among the causes for its acceptance.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
