The Ruling on Supplication After Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding the issue of supplication or raising the hands during supplication, I mentioned that the state of the Salaf, the Companions, and the scholars in this matter was that they used to supplicate before the taslim. So, regarding the issue of raising the hands after the prayer, is this the case for both the obligatory and voluntary prayers? Is it better for a person to raise his hands or not?
The Shaykh : May Allah reward you. In the first place, do not ask about raising the hands after the prayer; ask whether supplication after the prayer is prescribed or not?We say: It is not prescribed;Because Allah said:
Then when you have completed the prayer, remember Allahفَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمُ الصَّلاةَ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ
[Surat al-Nisa: 103] It did not say: "Then supplicate." Therefore, there is no place for supplication after the prayer; the place for supplication is before the taslim; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach his Companions the tashahhud and say: "Then supplicate with whatever you wish," so he made the supplication before the taslim, and he instructed Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) to say after the final tashahhud, before the taslim: "O Allah, help me to remember You, give thanks to You, and worship You in the best manner." This is supplication. Furthermore, the meaning necessitates this: as long as a person is praying, he is in intimate conversation with Allah, and when he turns away from the prayer, the intimate conversation ends. So, is it better to supplicate while you are in intimate conversation with Allah, or after you have turned away from the intimate conversation? The former is better, and there is no difference between the obligatory and voluntary prayers.

The questioner: Does the hadith about supplication between the adhan and the iqamah not apply? The Shaykh: Yes.
The Shaykh : It is authentic. You want to supplicate after the sunnah prayer that comes before the iqamah, not because it is after the sunnah, but because it is a time of response. This is permissible, and raise your hand until the iqamah for the prayer is called.

The questioner: What if a person supplicates before the taslim and then continues to supplicate for a long time? The Shaykh: There is no harm; it falls within the scope of the hadith.
