Clarification of the authenticity of the hadith in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: When was prophethood made obligatory for you?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Is it true that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was asked: When was prophethood made obligatory for you? He said:
Between the creation of Adam and the blowing of the spirit into him بين خلق آدم ونفخ الروح فيه
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 26:222
?
This is an authentic hadith, and of course, it has no connection to the common superstition, yes? The hadith has no connection to the common superstition which states that the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) is the first created being. There is no statement in the Book, nor in the Sunnah, that the Messenger (peace be upon him) is the first created being. In fact, the claim that the Messenger (peace be upon him) is the first created being contradicts basic rational intuition; for how can the first created being be one whose ancestor is Adam (peace be upon him)? Between this one who is said to be the first created being and Adam, there are hundreds of ancestors, and his most senior ancestor is Adam, yet the descendant, the descendant, and so on, is a created being before his most senior ancestor!! This means, as it is said, that we should abandon our intellects and speak in ways that contradict them.
Therefore, some people are forced to interpret this claim of being the first when they say that the Messenger (peace be upon him) ... was created by Allah. Then this basic rational intuition comes and refutes this superstition, so they interpret the phrase; because the intention is not that he was created with his body, but rather that he was created with his spirit. This hadith comes and invalidates this claim as well; because it says:
I was a prophet, and Adam was between the spirit and the body كنتُ نبيًّا وآدم بين الروح والجسد
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37:19
. As for the hadith:
I was a prophet, and Adam was between the water and the clay كنتُ نبيًّا وآدم بين الماء والطِّين
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37:19
, this is a fabricated hadith with no basis. The authentic one is what the Hafiz Ibn Kathir cited:
I was a prophet, and Adam was between the spirit and the body كنتُ نبيًّا وآدم بين الروح والجسد
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37:19
. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was written as a prophet,
I was a prophet كنتُ نبيًّا
means he was written as a prophet and Adam was between the spirit and the body. As for his creation, it is like the creation of all humans, and that is nothing but a confirmation of His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
Say, "I am only a man like you قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), although Allah chose him for his prophethood and messengership first, and then distinguished him with many miracles and signs second; despite all of that, he does not depart from being a human being, as stated in the verse, and He commanded him to clarify this reality:
Say, "I am only a man like you قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
. Then the Sunnah came to make the verse clearer, and he (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said in the story of his forgetfulness in the midday prayer when he prayed it five times:
Ibrahim b. Suwaid-reported: 'Alqama led us in the noon prayer and be offered five rak'ahs; when the prayer was complete, the people said to him: Abu Shibl, you have offered five rak'ahs. He said: No, I have not done that. They said: Yes (you said five rak'ahs). He (the narrator) said: And I was sitting in a corner among people and I was just a boy. I (also) said: Yes, you have offered five (rak'ahs). He said to me: O, one-eyed, do you say the same thing? I said: Yes. Upon this he turned (his face) and performed two prostrations and then gave salutations, and then reported 'Abdullah as saying: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in prayer and offered five rak'ahs. And as he turned away the people began to whisper amongst themselves. He (the Holy Prophet) said: What is the matter with you? They said: Has the prayer been extended? He said: No. They said: You have in fact said five rak'ahs. He (the Holy Prophet) then turned his back (and faced the Qibla) and performed two prostrations and then gave salutations and further said: Verily I am a human being like you, I forget just as you forget. Ibn Numair made this addition:" When any one of you forgets, he must perform two prostrations." إنما أنا بشرٌ مثلكم
Sahih Muslim 572j
. He used the comparative form here,
but I am a human being like you and liable to forget like you. So if I forget remind me إنما أنا بشرٌ مثلكم أنسى كما تنسَون ؛ فإذا نسيتُ فذكِّروني
Sahih al-Bukhari 401
.
So this hadith:
I was a prophet, and Adam was between the spirit and the body كنتُ نبيًّا وآدم بين الروح والجسد
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37:19
has no connection to their claim that he (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) is the first of Allah’s creation.
