Eid Abbasi : He says: What is the ruling regarding the hadith narrated by Muslim from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to, when the sky rained, uncover his shoulders until the rain would touch him, and he would say: Sunan Abi Dawud 5100Sahih (Al-Albani); knowing that the clouds, the source of the rain, are close to the earth and are in the lowest heaven?
The Shaykh : ... This is as if the questioner is distinguishing between near elevation and far elevation. There is a distinction there regarding the attribute of the Most High, the Supreme.
The rain is validly descending from the clouds, but the clouds are from the sky, and "everything that is above you is a sky"; so it descends from a place described as elevation. So when the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was seen and the rain had descended, he went out to receive it with his chest, so some of his Companions were surprised by this from him, so they asked him about the reason? He said:Sunan Abi Dawud 5100Sahih (Al-Albani). In that is an indication that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has the attribute of elevation, but we, as we always say, forever and ever, the elevation of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is an attribute of His like any other attribute, and the sum of His attributes is like His essence, just as His essence does not resemble any of the essences; so likewise His attributes do not resemble any of the attributes. So if the Book and the Sunnah are coming in many, many verses and hadiths to affirm the attribute of elevation for the Most High, the Forgiver; then this hadith is from those hadiths that indicate the attribute of elevation, but the hadith does not mean that Allah is in the clouds, rather it means that this rain descended from the direction of elevation which is an attribute of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). But elevation, as it is an attribute of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), He is elevated above all creations, and we are merely to imagine this attribute without any asking how; because the matter is as the scholars say: "Whatever comes to your mind, Allah is other than that." But merely imagining that He is elevated above all His creations is enough for us to convince ourselves that this attribute does not resemble the attributes of the creations. Which creation is above all the creations?!
Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is the One who has this absolute attribute of being elevated above all His creations. So the descent of the rain from the sky and our Prophet receiving it with his chest, and his saying:Sunan Abi Dawud 5100Sahih (Al-Albani) So we always and forever say that the creations share with Allah in attributes in name, not in reality. We read the Verse of the Throne: [Al-Baqarah 2:255]. We are alive, we are not dead, but we will say: The life of Allah is not like our life. That is it, the problem is finished. Apply this rule and rest from the philosophy of the science of theology. Every attribute that is established in the Book and the Sunnah, take it upon the verse of negation and affirmation: [Ash-Shuraa 42:11]. The Messenger in this hadith said: Sunan Abi Dawud 5100Sahih (Al-Albani) But is this attribute like this attribute? [Ash-Shuraa 42:11].
Yes.
Because it has recently been with its Lord.

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُThere is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
