Clarification that the reward obtained through trial benefits only the Muslim who affirms the oneness of Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then, there is something here that must be pointed out, namely that this reward given to the believing servant for his trial and his patience with it is only for the believing servant who affirms the oneness of Allah; the believing servant who affirms the oneness of Allah and does not associate anything with Allah. In reality, if we remember this point, we find that many of these Muslims who are tried in themselves with various trials and illnesses do not benefit from this trial at all, even if they are patient with it. That is because, as we have stated repeatedly, their affair is as Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And most of them believe not in Allah except while they associate others with Him. وَمَا يُؤْمِنُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ بِاللَّهِ إِلَّا وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ
[Yusuf 12:106]
. Most people do not believe except that they have mixed shirk (associating partners with Allah) with their faith. It may be major shirk, like those who call upon other than Allah, seek aid from other than Allah, and ask some of the righteous or the awliya (close friends of Allah) to remove the trial. Therefore, I say: How excellent is this hadith, which came with this condition, in which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah does not afflict a servant with a trial while he is upon a path He dislikes, except that Allah makes that trial an expiation and purification, as long as he does not attribute what has befallen him of trial to other than Allah, or call upon other than Allah to remove it.
. In this hadith, it is clarified that any trial that befalls the believer is an expiation and purification for him, but with one condition: that he does not direct this trial to other than Allah—meaning other than Allah—so he does not ask for its removal from other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If he does that, his trial from Allah becomes "a clod of dust on a camel’s hump"; meaning, just as the disbeliever is afflicted in his body and wealth, he has nothing from behind that in terms of expiation of sins, raising of degrees, or recording of good deeds.
Therefore, we must remember that whenever we read a hadith about the virtue of patience with trials, this virtue must be restricted to the case where the one who is patient with the trial is a believer who affirms the oneness of Allah and does not associate anything with Allah. We will suffice with this hadith in this lesson so that we can return to answering the questions, and Professor 'Ayd will present the most important of them, one after another.
