A woman vowed to play the hand drum on a day other than a festival or wedding; is she obligated to fulfill it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A woman vowed that if her son passed the high school final exam, she would play the hand drum.

The Shaykh : This is a vow of disobedience. We have emphasized earlier that playing the hand drum is forbidden forever, except on the occasion of a wedding or a festival. This woman who vowed to play the hand drum on such an occasion has made a vow of disobedience. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him. من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam)
. Yes, an event occurred during the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that will never occur again after his passing (peace and blessings be upon him). A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after he had returned victorious over his enemies in one of the battles. She said, "I vowed that if you return safely, I will play the hand drum before you." He said,
Then do it. فافعلي
. This is a text that must be understood by noting two matters. The first is the greatness of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the fact that his safe return from a battle against the polytheists and disbelievers involved the preservation of the religion, and this will never be the case for anyone else. The second is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has specific attributes in which no one among the people shares with him. Therefore, one should not imagine that it is permissible for a person to vow to play the hand drum on the occasion of his own joy, by analogy to what the woman did with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because this is, as the jurists say, an analogy with a difference, or as some say, like comparing blacksmiths to angels. Where is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who was vowed for if he returned safely, and where is anyone after him who could be said to have returned safely? Here, there is no safe return; rather, he passed the exam. And what is the value of this exam? It is possible to fail in it, which would be better for him. Some exams are like this. Therefore, it is not permissible to fulfill such a vow in any way. Perhaps you have informed them.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And we are ready, if Allah wills.

The questioner: Yes.
