What is the manner of lowering oneself to prostration? And a discussion on the hadith (… and do not kneel down as a camel kneels down …).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A final question regarding prostration. The hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the meaning of the hadith is
Let none of you kneel down as a camel kneels down. لا يبرك أحدكم كما يبرك البعير
. Or as he said (peace and blessings be upon him). Another hadith says
let him put his hands down before his knees يضع يديه قبل ركبتيه
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1091Hasan (Darussalam)
. The truth is, I have seen that as for the camel, meaning in front of me, it places its hands before its knees.

The Shaykh : You are wrong.

The questioner: How.

The Shaykh : You are wrong.

The questioner : I may not know. The front limbs before the back ones, meaning I do not know if its legs are behind it.
The students laugh.

The questioner : So I have actually seen it, but I do not know about this matter.

The Shaykh : The answer is, "You are not the first traveler to be deceived by the moon."
The students laugh.

The questioner : I know this.

The Shaykh : How do you know?

The questioner : I know this, and I am hesitant about it, and on this basis I asked you, so based on that I asked you.

The Shaykh : I am now alerting you to the error that people fall into, and you are among the people.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : I am not asking you, I am not speaking with you about a legal ruling now. I am speaking now about the question I am directing to you, which is not legal, but we are implementing the Shari'ah. I am speaking now about what they call today? Animal science. Animals have a foreign name? What is the science? Biology, I do not know what it is, and so on. The important thing is that I am now going to ask you a question related to animals, but pay attention to the question, you and the others present, because it is not just you who have the problem. Yesterday on the phone, one of our brothers, a Salafi, was speaking with me for half an hour about this issue, and he said, "A difficulty has come to us." Now I tell you, imagine a camel in front of you, does it kneel down? I am asking you, if the camel kneels down, what is the first thing of its body that touches the ground? Do not say its hands, because that is a mistake, and do not say its legs.

The questioner : Its knees.

The Shaykh : Listen, listen, because the camel walks on four legs, correct?

The questioner : Yes, yes.

The Shaykh : So its legs are like its hands in that they are placed from the day it falls from its mother's belly, you find what? Your Lord established it on four legs, correct.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So its hands are placed and its legs are placed; do not tell me its hands or its knees; so now I am telling you, when the camel kneels down, what is the first thing of its body that touches the ground?

The questioner : Its knees.

The Shaykh : Its knees, where are the camel's knees?

The questioner : From the back.
Abu Ishaq: In its hands, in its hands.

The Shaykh : Let him be, he will find his way, O Shaykh, otherwise you will become the one giving hints and he will be the one receiving hints.

The questioner : I mean, I love our brother, truly...

The Shaykh : You want it and I am concerned, what do you think?
Laughter.The Shaykh .

The questioner : May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : I do not know if it was a throw from you when you said "its knees," and then you ruined it for him when you said "its legs." The camel walks on four legs, without likening it to anything. These are its front parts. The part here is called a knee, unlike the human. The human's knee is in his leg. The camel's knee is in its hand. That is the Arabic language. If you open the Lisan al-Arab dictionary, you will find the entry for "knee," and it will tell you that the knee in four-legged animals is in their front parts. The camel's knees, that is what I say, in its front parts, and so is every four-legged animal. The cat, for example, where is its knee? In its hands. The rabbit, where is its knee? In its hands. The goat, the sheep, where are their knees? In their hands. So from here the problem is lost on people, and I tell people, O people, you are people of the desert, you do not know how a camel kneels down.
Laughter.The Shaykh .

The questioner : Praise be to Allah, I place my hands before my knees.

The Shaykh : No problem, Professor, I mean how do you understand the people? We are not afraid for you now. You have known that the Sunnah is to place one's hands before one's knees, but a debater will come and say to you, "The Messenger of Allah said
he must not kneel in the manner of camel فلا يبرك كما يبرك البعير
Sunan Abi Dawud 840Sahih (Al-Albani)
." We see that the first thing is to place one's hands, and why do you place your hands?

The questioner : I do not know this...

The Shaykh : And so you need to be patient with me, may Allah curse you tonight for me, and you need to be patient with me, heh heh
when one of you prostrates himself he must not kneel in the manner of camel إذا سجد أحدكم فلا يبرك كما يبرك البعير
Sunan Abi Dawud 840Sahih (Al-Albani)
. How does the camel kneel down? You need to say it places its knees, which are in its front parts, before anything else of its body. So you, O worshipper, do not imitate the camel. The camel kneels on its knees. Where are its knees, O Arab? Where? In its hands, not in its legs.

The questioner : No problem, O our Shaykh, regarding this matter, meaning...

The Shaykh : We need to teach the Arabs.
Laughter.The Shaykh .

The questioner : On this matter, I read in the fatwas of Ibn Taymiyyah that he says, "By the consensus of the scholars, both states are permissible."

The Shaykh : Wrong, I know.

The questioner : Nevertheless, there is a hadith against the hadith that says to kneel down.

The Shaykh : I know, I know; I told you earlier, you did not believe me, you need to be patient with me. May Allah curse you tonight, be patient with me and say, "There is no power and no strength except with Allah." Here you are performing the Sunnah now. You do not kneel down like the camel kneels down. You do not place your knees before your palms. Rather, you place your palms before your knees. This is the Sunnah. This Sunnah has two hadiths, this is one of them, and it is misunderstood and thus applied incorrectly. Do you understand how?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And it was said, what do I answer with the second hadith? I want to draw your attention to what is the wisdom of the Wise Lawgiver forbidding the Muslim worshipper to kneel down like the camel kneels down...
