What is the ruling on one who does not think about jihad?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student : The hadith that says, "Whoever does not fight in jihad or does not think about jihad, then dies, dies the death of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance." Does merely thinking about jihad exempt one from this warning? And if one spends some of his wealth in the cause of Allah, does that exempt him from this warning? That is, if he spends in the cause of Allah in jihad, does he escape the warning?

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you. Jihad is of two types: one is an individual obligation, as is the case in this time; and the other is a collective obligation. Currently, there is no collective obligation because the Muslims are being attacked in their own lands, so it is an individual obligation. Therefore, it is not sufficient for a Muslim to merely think about jihad to be saved from hypocrisy; rather, he must go forth with those who go forth in the cause of fighting in the path of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. This is if the conditions that facilitate jihad in the path of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, are present. In this case, it is obligatory for every Muslim to go forth. However, if the circumstances are not conducive to that, the least he can do is intend this jihad. This hadith is exactly about the intention that is necessary, just like the hadith, "Whoever sees..." the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri
He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith. من رأى منكم منكرا فليغيره بيده فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه وذلك أضعف الإيمان
Sahih Muslim 49a
. So when a Muslim is unable to actually fight in jihad, the least he can do is intend it in his heart. This is the intended meaning of the hadith of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him,
Whoever does not go on a military expedition من لم يغز
. That is, when it is possible
or does not think about it in his heart, then dies, he dies upon a branch of hypocrisy أو لم يحدث به نفسه ثم مات مات على شعبة من النفاق
. Or as he, peace and blessings be upon him, said.
