The Excellence of Jihad with Wealth and with the Self
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence, I do not know if I heard from one of the scholars that jihad with wealth is equivalent to jihad with the self. What is your opinion on this?
Answer:
Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, placed jihad with wealth before jihad with the self in the majority of the verses.
The presenter: Jihad with wealth is given precedence.
The Shaykh: He gave it precedence over jihad with the self; because of His saying, the Exalted: [At-Tawbah: 41] And He said, the Exalted: [At-Tawbah: 19].
So the point is: that jihad in the path of Allah is of great significance, and it is better with wealth in some respects, and better with the self in some respects. The self is the most precious thing to a person, so if he fights with his self, this is the best jihad; because he fought with his self.
But Allah gave wealth precedence; because wealth is beneficial in many directions. One can hire a fighter with it, one can equip a fighter with it, one can buy weapons with it, buy food and drink with it, buy clothing with it, buy provisions and stores with it. So the benefit of wealth is varied.
As for jihad with the self, it is a specific jihad, and it is offering one's self in the path of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but what is derived from wealth is of varied types, many categories. So for this reason, it was given precedence in the majority of the verses, and the self was mentioned in one verse in His saying, the Exalted: [At-Tawbah: 111]. So when the station is one of offering the self and offering wealth, then offering the self is greater than offering wealth, and more precious to Allah and to the believers. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.

Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah
انفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا وَجَاهِدُوا بِأَمْوَالِكُمْ وَأَنفُسِكُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِHave you made the providing of water for the pilgrim and the maintenance of al-Masjid al-Haram equal to [the deeds of] one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives in the cause of Allah? They are not equal in the sight of Allah. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
So the point is: that jihad in the path of Allah is of great significance, and it is better with wealth in some respects, and better with the self in some respects. Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise
