What is the ruling on going out with the Tablighi Jama'ah?

The questioner : O Shaykh, if I am someone who is turning to the religion and I have no knowledge, and let us say that a group invited me to go out with them for da'wah, some of my brothers who reside in the mosques warned me that this group is called the Tablighi Jama'ah and that I have no right to go out with them, because they hold corrupt beliefs. What should I do?

The Shaykh : Seek knowledge? What is the problem? Seek knowledge?

The questioner : Is it permissible for me to go out now?

The Shaykh : Their going out is not from the Sunnah. Sitting in the mosques seeking knowledge and studying the Book of Allah, as came in the authentic hadith, this is the Shari'ah. As for their going out like this in groups, and most of them do not know of Islam except a little, this is in which they have opposed the Muslims from the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to this time. Before this time, by about thirty or forty years, there was no group going out like this in the tens and hundreds, and perhaps there is not even one scholar among them. Now they are spreading in Jordan and in Syria. We advise them to sit in the circles of knowledge and to learn. Likewise, we advise you. We say to you: attend the circles of knowledge and the gatherings of knowledge and learn. As for this going out, it has no basis in the Sunnah.
