Is the hadith about prayer in al-Aqsa Mosque being worth 500 prayers authentic? And the Shaykh spoke about the difference between al-Masjid al-Haram and the other mosques of Makkah.

The questioner : What do you advise us to do in this matter? Should we pray now?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory to pray; we must catch the prayer.

The questioner : We form a congregation here.

The Shaykh : No, we do not form a congregation here except in the mosque.

The questioner : Well, the mosque is ten or nine meters from us.

The Shaykh : Multiply that many times over; every step is a good deed and the erasure of a bad deed.

The questioner : O our Shaykh, we are in Makkah...

The Shaykh : No, in Makkah you should be in the mosque of Makkah, not in all of Makkah.

The questioner : Because it is not the same prayer, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : No, it is not the same prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Prayer in this mosque of mine is worth a thousand prayers in any other mosque, except al-Masjid al-Haram. صلاة في مسجدي هذا ، بألف صلاة مما سواه من المساجد ، إلا المسجد الحرام
, so prayer in it is worth a hundred thousand prayers, and prayer in al-Aqsa Mosque is worth two hundred and fifty prayers, not five hundred as is commonly believed. This one is weak and that one is authentic, meaning two hundred and fifty. The point is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in this hadith is speaking about the mosques that were built for prayer, not about the cities, meaning Makkah, Madinah, and Bayt al-Maqdis. Rather, he is speaking about the three mosques and giving each mosque the reward that Allah granted it. How? How?

The questioner : After the prayer, if Allah wills.

The Shaykh : After the prayer, if Allah wills, meaning we are tied up until after the prayer, and then we walk to our daughter’s and son-in-law’s house.

The questioner : O my master, your daughter is our daughter.

The Shaykh : And how can your daughter be my daughter and my daughter be your daughter, when you do not know her and I do not know her?

The questioner : I know her father, that is enough.

The Shaykh : So the hadith has a connection, if Allah wills.

The questioner : In Islam.

The Shaykh : No, agree with one another, and I am with all of you.
