Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The brother has a question: Is it valid to cite the hadith of Abu (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the follower not correcting the imam if he makes a mistake in a specific place in the recitation? The hadith says:
till he reached up to seven harfs حتى بلغ سبعة أحرف
Sunan Abi Dawud 1478Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and then it says:
It is not one of us unless it is sufficient and clear: if you say "Hearing and Knowing" and if you say "Mighty and Wise," provided you do not conclude a verse of punishment with mercy or a verse of mercy with punishment ليس منا إلا كافٍ شاف إن قلت : سمعيًا عليمًا وإن قلت : عزيزًا حكيمًا ما لم تختم آية عذاب برحمة أو آية رحمة بعذاب
?

The Shaykh : He means the follower correcting the imam.

The questioner : Regarding the imam not correcting the follower.

The Shaykh : Perhaps a transposition occurred here from some of the hadiths. It is required, meaning the follower correcting the imam. He intends opening the recitation for the imam. It appears he means the follower correcting the imam, i.e., opening the recitation for him. What is the question?

The questioner : If he makes a mistake in a specific place in the recitation, the hadith says:
The matter reached up to seven modes. He then said: 'Each mode is sufficiently حتى بلغ سبعة أحرف ، ثم قال : ليس منها إلا كافٍ كاف
Sunan Abi Dawud 1477Sahih (Al-Albani)

The Shaykh : Sufficient and clear

The questioner :
sufficiently health-giving, whether you utter 'all-hearing and all-knowing' or instead 'all-powerful and all-wise'. This is valid until you finish the verse indicating punishment on mercy and finish the verse indicating mercy on punishment. كاف شاف إن قلت : سمعيًا عليمًا وإن قلت : عزيزًا حكيمًا ما لم تختم آية عذاب برحمة أو آية رحمة بعذاب
Sunan Abi Dawud 1477Sahih (Al-Albani)
؟

The Shaykh : The understanding of the question, after correcting the transposition, is that you place the follower (the ma'mum) first and the imam last. The questioner intends that if the imam makes a mistake during his recitation of the Qur'an, and his mistake does not change the meaning of the verse—meaning he did not place a verse of mercy in place of a verse of punishment, or place "Hearing and Seeing" in place of "Knowing and Hearing," or the like—then in this case, does he open the recitation for him or not? The answer is that if the recitation the imam recited is from the established recitations of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), then naturally, he does not open the recitation for him. But if it is a weakness or a mistake, he opens the recitation for him and corrects him. This is what we see, and Allah knows best.

The questioner : Perhaps there is a Shaytan whispering to this person, so we want to know how we whisper to this whispering Shaytan?

The Shaykh : This is a foolish question.
