The Shaykh was asked about a commentary found in *Mukhtasar al-'Uluww*: is it his, or is it by Zuhayr al-Shawish?

The questioner : In *Mukhtasar al-'Uluww*, you stated that there are three indicators of metaphor that necessitate departing from the literal meaning. The first is rational, such as Allah the Exalted saying:
And ask the city in which we were and the caravan in which we came واسأل القرية التي كنا فيها والعير التي أقبلنا فيها
[Yusuf 12:82]
meaning their people are with them, and among them
And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy واخفض لهما جناح الذل من الرحمة
[Al-Isra 17:24]
. The second is spatial, such as
O Haman, construct for me a tower يا هامان ابن لي صرحا
[Ghafir 40:36]
meaning "order someone to build," because it is known that he does not build. The third is like
Like His light مثل نوره
, which is evidence that Allah is not the light. The scholars said that the sign of a false claim is its lack of any of these indicators. Look at "The Effects of Truth upon Creation," page so-and-so, by the scholar... al-Yamani. Is this commentary yours or Zuhayr's?

The Shaykh : You must know, above all, that a dispute occurred between me and Zuhayr years ago. Therefore, he comments on my books without my permission, based on what his knowledge—or perhaps more accurately, his ignorance—suggests to him. This commentary is from him, not from me, and I do not approve of this statement.

The questioner : We want to clarify whether it is from you or from Zuhayr?

The Shaykh : No, no, it is not from me. I said in the answer to this question that it is not from me and I do not approve of this statement.

The questioner : This is the position I held as stronger. The brothers objected to it, so I said, "I know that Zuhayr adds things from his own mind without indicating them."

The Shaykh : One of the most dangerous additions is that he came to the hadith: "The truest word spoken by a poet is the word of Labid: 'Ala kullu shay'in ma khala Allahu batil'" (Verily, everything is false except Allah). This hadith is in the two Sahihs and is mentioned in *Sahih al-Jami'*. The man, may Allah guide him, added the second line to this first line: "wa kullu na'im la mahalata zayil" (and every pleasure is inevitably fleeting).

The questioner : In the main text, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Yes, in the main text. The details will come to you, and it is placed between brackets like this in the main text itself. He wrote a commentary like this one, saying, "Quoted from the Diwan of Labid, page so-and-so."

The questioner : It follows up on the hadith.

The Shaykh : As you saw here in this book, when he adds something, he attributes it to himself, either by a sign or explicitly. A sign is a "Z," and explicitly is "Zuhayr." In this commentary, Zuhayr did not put "Zuhayr" and did not place anything. In another commentary here in the same book, regarding Zuhayr, when he added something to *Sahih al-Jami'* as well, he did not put "Zuhayr" or "Z." This is the new edition. The one who reads this commentary says, "This is the work of al-Albani, because he is the author." But the truth is that this is an addition from his own mind. Therefore, he has corrupted many of my books with his commentaries. And this addition is very serious because errors have accumulated with this single addition. First, it is the greatest and most dangerous: it is a lie against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Because the hadith in all books of the Sunnah, not only in al-Bukhari and Muslim, all books of the Sunnah, the hadith came restricted to the first line of the poem: "Ala kullu shay'in ma khala Allahu batil." He came and lied against the Messenger of Allah, placed the second line, and completed the first line with it. Then he lied against al-Bukhari and Muslim and everyone who narrated this hadith, because they did not narrate it. The hadith is mentioned in *al-Jami'* attributed to so-and-so, so-and-so, and so-and-so from the compilers, and they do not have this addition. Then he lied against the author of *al-Jami' al-Saghir*, who is al-Suyuti. Then he lied against the arranger of *al-Jami' al-Saghir*, who included the addition, who isThe Shaykh : Yusuf al-Nabhani. Then I was the last one he lied about. Peace and Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you. Therefore, we ask Allah to guide us.

The questioner : And the narrators of the hadiths as well, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Correct, but the book apparently does not mention anyone other than these, meaning yes.
