The questioner : Noble Shaykh, in student gathering places, there are often papers bearing the Name of Allah or the name of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and some throw them away without caring. Is it obligatory for every person to place these on the ground or to carry them? And if there are many scattered on the ground, where should they be placed if one does not find a suitable place for them?

The Shaykh : It appears to me that it is not obligatory for every person who finds papers on the ground to pick them up and search them to see if they contain a verse or a hadith, because that is burdensome. Yes, if he sees with his own eyes that this paper contains a verse from the Book of Allah or a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), then at that time he should take it. But I advise my brothers who throw away these papers to check them before doing so. If they find in them a verse or a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), they should hold onto them and burn them, for the fire consumes what is placed in it. And they should not be negligent in this matter. It has reached me that some foolish people throw away the tafsir textbook, which contains the verses and an explanation of their meaning, throwing it into the trash, and I seek refuge in Allah, without caring about what is in it. This is a great danger, because the Qur'an has a sanctity that is worthy of it. The Qur'an is the speech of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), with which He (Exalted and Majestic is He) spoke with a voice and letters, and He cast it upon Jibril, and Jibril cast it upon the heart of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in a clear Arabic language. How is it fitting for one who believes in Allah and the Last Day to throw the speech of Allah into the trash? Glory be to Allah, this is an ugly action. We ask Allah for guidance and success for us and for our brothers.

The questioner : O Allah, amen.

The Shaykh : In this case, we say: gather the books that contain verses and hadiths which you cannot use, gather them and burn them. Go out to a direction in the desert and then burn them. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you. This questioner, Salim Abu Sami, says in this question.
